Little Bears: The Beginning of the Early Years Adventure

Educación Infantil

At the English School of Asturias, we are proud to offer our Little Bears classroom — a stage that marks the first step into school life for many children. With this in mind, we have created a carefully designed environment where learning is a fun, meaningful, and safe experience from day one.

Little Bears is designed to help our youngest children discover the world around them through play, exploration, and emotional connections. Here, they begin to develop key skills in an atmosphere that nurtures their emotional wellbeing, independence, and natural curiosity.

From this point, children continue their journey into Early Years — our Infant Education area, based on a high-quality British approach focused on the holistic development of each child.

Learning Through Play and Exploration

The Early Years approach is rooted in active learning. Children take part in both free play and teacher-led activities, allowing them to investigate, problem-solve, make decisions, and develop their creative thinking.
The learning environment also includes an outdoor space, which is essential for both physical and emotional development. There, children can move freely, explore nature, and take part in activities that enhance their gross motor skills.

Throughout the week, children also enjoy psychomotor sessions and oral language activities in Spanish, which complement their full immersion in English — the main language of the classroom.

A Day in Early Years

The school day begins at 9:10am with free play. From 9:30am onwards, children take part in educational activities both inside and outside the classroom. After a short break for stories or songs, lunchtime begins at 11:50am.

After lunch, the children have a rest, and as they wake up, they engage in quiet activities or games. The afternoon continues with a snack and ends with a final session of songs and stories, concluding the school day at 4:10pm.

Ongoing Assessment and Family Communication

Children’s progress is monitored through continuous observation, which is recorded using the Tapestry platform. Families can view photos, videos, and comments that reflect their child’s learning and receive detailed reports at the end of each term.

In addition, we maintain daily communication with families about important matters such as meals, rest, and hygiene. Regular meetings with teachers are scheduled, and extra appointments can be arranged whenever needed.

A Space Designed for Their Wellbeing

From the school dining room — which offers balanced, tailored menus — to nap time and the personal items children bring from home (such as a change of clothes, blanket, cup, dummy, or comfort toy), everything is carefully planned to ensure a school experience that feels both comfortable and familiar.

Early Years is much more than an educational stage: it is a community where our youngest children grow up happy, safe, and eager to learn. And it all begins with Little Bears — the very start of their story.
